Hull City have identified former Hamburg and Stuttgart manager Tim Walter as one of the top potential candidates to replace Liam Rosenior as their new head coach. According to reports, the Tigers decided to do so to allow the new manager to have the full summer to build their squad. Notably, club owner Ilicali has had his eye on Walter ever since he left his role at Hamburg in February.

Playing and coaching career
Tim Walter started out as a professional footballer and achieved mild success. He played for clubs like SG Dielheim, ASV Durlach before eventually retiring at FC Heidelsheim. Throughout his career, he mainly played as an attacking midfielder. After his retirement, Walter joined Karlsruhe in 2006 as assistant manager for the U19s before becoming their full-time manager.
After serving for a year in that role, he joined Bayern Munich, where he spent two years as U17s manager. He then spent a year as the head coach of their second team, joining the likes of former managers Bayern II like Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and Martin Demichelis, who is an ex-Manchester City defender and current River Plate head coach.
Walter then left Munich for his first senior managerial role at Holstein Kiel, before joining Stuttgart after one season. However, he was sacked just before Christmas in 2019 and spent a few years as a free agent. The 48-year-old eventually joined Hamburg in 2021, where he served as the manager till earlier this year, in February.
Jurgen Klopp comparisons
Interestingly, Tim Walter has had several comparisons to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. While managing Stuttgart, Walter signed former Liverpool and current Cardiff City defender Nat Phillips on loan. During his time under Walter, the centre-back explained:
“Tim Walter is a bit like Klopp. Both of them are very positive, have fun, are passionate and dedicated, and that’s great for the fans as well as for us players.”
