Willoughby criticized Newcastle from the stands, prompting Trippier to approach him at full-time. However, Willoughby now expresses regret for his impulsive actions, acknowledging they were done “in the heat of the moment.”

Willoughby openly admitted his involvement in a Facebook post responding to the Newcastle United Supporters’ Club. In a post-match exchange captured on video, Trippier was heard confronting Willoughby about the team’s effort and the challenges they faced with injuries.
Willoughby’s Confession

I regret having a go at them because I know what all these players have done for this club. Everyone’s done stupid things. I hold my hands up and admit I shouldn’t have had a go at them that much but was just the heat of the moment.”
Trippier, addressing the incident, emphasized the emotional nature of fans and reassured them about the team’s commitment.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe also downplayed the situation, describing it as a “tough” and “emotional day,” while confirming that Trippier is fine.
