The opening ceremony was held on July 26. The main event will take place in Paris, with 16 other towns in Metropolitan France and one subsite in Tahiti, French Polynesia, also hosting events.
At the 131st IOC Session in Lima, Peru, on September 13, 2017, Paris was granted the Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved a process to concurrently award the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics to the two remaining candidate cities, Paris and Los Angeles, after multiple withdrawals left them in contention. Both bids were praised for their high technical plans and creative ways to use a record-breaking number of temporary and existing facilities. Paris becomes the second city in history to hold the Summer Olympics three times, after doing so in 1900 and 1924.
BBC iPlayer and BBC One will also stream live coverage of the Ceremony. To get the most recent Olympic news, view The Sun’s live updates.
Thierry Reboul has planned every aspect of the games, including the route taken by the Olympic Flame, the medals awarded, the costumes, and even the podium designs. As the Ceremony makes its way down the Seine, he has warned followers to expect some very exciting surprises.
Thomas Jolly meanwhile is the artistic director for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He is a queer Jew.
