A Las Vegas establishment’s “Bluey” event sparked anger, tears, and frustration among attendees.

On May 11, Dirt Dog, a popular restaurant chain in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, hosted a family-friendly event featuring a meet-and-greet with Bluey, the star of a beloved children’s animated series.

Unfortunately, the event did not go as planned. Located on South Rainbow Boulevard, Dirt Dog had advertised the event on Facebook, promising activities such as a Bluey episode marathon, face painting, games, and special Bluey-themed treats.

As per reports, the post attracted around 3,000 responses. However, the turnout on the day far exceeded expectations, resulting in overcrowding inside the restaurant and a long line stretching outside.

The activities fell short of expectations, leaving many parents and children disappointed. Complaints poured in about the subpar costumes, face painting, and treats.

The character Bluey was portrayed by a staff member, the face painting was done by an employee, and the treats were insufficient for the large crowd.

Attendees Express Disappointment

One of the major letdowns was the portrayal of Bluey by a male employee, whose visible beard upset many children.

Sophia, one young attendee, expressed her disappointment to the media, saying, “We could see his beard.”

On Facebook, a mother shared a comparison photo of Dirt Dog’s Bluey and a Bluey from a previous event, highlighting the stark difference.

The Dirt Dog employee wore a simple pajama suit, while the other Bluey was a professional mascot costume. “DO NOT GO! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!” the mother wrote. “There are far better costumes out there. What a shame they got all those kids’ hopes up.”

Stephanie Hernandez, another parent at the event, described the scene to reporters, “The kids were distraught. Some were crying on their parents’ shoulders. It was heartbreaking to see so many upset children.”

What Did Dirt Dog’s Management Say?

Dirt Dog’s management admitted that they were unprepared for the large crowd. Marketing spokesperson Taj Wilder explained that they anticipated only 50 to 60 attendees despite the 3,000 responses on Facebook.

“We didn’t expect the whole city to come out,” Wilder said, noting that previous events had much lower turnouts.

In response to the backlash, Dirt Dog issued an apology on Instagram, promising to improve future events. “We are truly sorry this event wasn’t to standard.”

They now plan to hold another event to give visitors a better experience related to the show.

Dirt Dog is owner by Timothy Cam. In the early 90’s he found myself on streets of Downtown Los Angeles most weekends and in the summer as his parents owned a business in Downtown Los Angeles and he found myself in Downtown with little choices for food.

One summer day infront of his parent’s store, there was a Hispanic lady selling hot dogs on a flat grill and the hot dog was wrapped in bacon and toppings of grilled onions, bell peppers, red peppers and jalapenos were offered with mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup to sauce it up.

While his mom refused to let him purchase the hot dog, referring to it as dirt, Timothy and his brother Simon went onto have and love it which lead to the birth of the name Dirt Dog.

Despite the apology, many parents continued to express their frustration on the original Facebook page.

The controversy surrounding Dirt Dog’s event follows a similar incident with a disappointing Willy Wonka Experience in Glasgow that garnered significant online criticism.
