A 22-year-old Danish man was taken into custody, according to Inspector Soren Thomassen of the Copenhagen Police. No other parties were involved in the event, he continued, although authorities were still looking into it.
While the police is yet to reveal the identity of the shooter, he is a white Dane with further details awaited.
In Denmark, gun violence is comparatively infrequent.
The shooting, which occurred in the late afternoon at Field’s, one of the largest shopping centres in Scandinavia and a suburb of the Danish capital, Thomassen said it was too early to speculate on the cause.
Witnesses said that as the shots were fired, some people fled in a panicked stampede while others sheltered in shops.
Without providing further information, Thomassen stated that the casualties comprised a guy in his 40s and two “young individuals.” Three of the victims, he claimed, were critically hurt.
He claimed that at 5:37 p.m. local time, police received the initial reports of a shooting; 11 minutes later, the suspect was taken into custody. The term “ethnic Dane,” which is usually used to refer to someone who is white, was employed by Thomassen to characterise the suspect.
A blurry image of the alleged shooter—a man in knee-length shorts and a tank top—holding what looked to be a firearm in his right hand was released by the Danish television station TV2.
People were seen fleeing the mall in pictures taken at the site, while TV2 posted a picture of a guy being carried out on a stretcher. Following the incident, a sizable number of heavily armed police officers patrolled the area, and there were also a number of fire department cars positioned in front of the mall.
Laurits Hermansen told the Danish television station DR that he and his family were at a clothing store at the shopping centre when they heard the news “four and three bangs. thunderous booms. The rounds appeared to have been fired close to the business.”
The shopping area is located on the outskirts of Copenhagen, directly across from a subway stop on the route that runs from the city’s core to the airport. Additionally, a significant motorway borders the mall.
Royal reception and Harry Styles concert are postponed
By police order, the Harry Styles concert that was supposed to go place at the neighbouring Royal Arena was cancelled. Styles tweeted on Snapchat: “I, together with my team, offer prayers for everyone hurt in the shooting in the mall in Copenhagen. I’m stunned. Love H.”
A reception with Crown Prince Frederik related to the Tour de France bicycle competition, according to Denmark’s royal palace, has been postponed. This year, Denmark hosted the first three stages of the race. In Soenderborg, where the third stage concluded, where the royal yacht is moored, the reception was scheduled to take place.
