Gurjanpreet Singh is an Indian professional cricketer left arm medium pace bowler who was born on November 8, 1998, in Ambala, Haryana, India. He is currently 25 years old and plays for Tamil Nadu at the domestic level. The young pacer recently went viral after knocking out Virat Kohli in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Following his recent performances, Singh helped Tamil Nadu began the Ranji season with a 70 run-win over Saurashtra.

Career

After experiencing repeated failures to make Punjab age-group teams, Gurjapneet Singh shifted to Chennai on his coachโ€™s advice. Singh moved to Chennai aged 17, where he pursued a bachelorโ€™s degree at Guru Nanak College. He immediately embraced the cricketing culture at the institution and developed an interest in bowling fast. During his time at Guru Nanak College, he also became a net bowler for the India Cements owned Vijay CC.

He soon started playing for TNCA in the Third Division, following which he secured a TNPL contract, before he finally got to play for Vijay CC in 2021. He has since gone on to make considerable progress in his career. Owing to his consistent performances, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) recruited the left-arm pacer as their net bowler for several of the Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons. He then joined Siechem Madurai Panthers, where Gurjapneet sparked the 2023 TNPL with 15 wickets, averaging 14.1.

He is currently making his debut in the Ranji Trophy, and after going wicketless in the first innings, Gurjapneet stood out in the second innings with his maiden wicket over Chirag Jani. He then secured a second wicket against Cheteshwar Pujara, further crushing Saurashtra.
