Szymon Marciniak is a professional football referee from Poland. He is regarded as one of the most highly-rated referees in the world of football. In his refereeing career, Marciniak has been the referee in some of the biggest games which include the 2018 UEFA Super Cup Final. Marciniak has been named as the official referee for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final game between Argentina and France. He will carry a heavy burden on his shoulders and his decisions will play an important role in determining the champion.
Szymon Marciniak’s refereeing career
At the age of 21, he started his career as a football referee at the amateur level. He turned to work as a professional football referee in 2006, and in 2009, at the GKS Bechatów stadium, he refereed his first game in the top Polish professional league. Since then, he has refereed more than 200 games in the Polish league. He has also referred to the 2016 Polish Cup and 2017 Polish Super Cup finals.
Marciniak’s refereeing career took a bright turn in 2011 when he was named a FIFA-listed referee. In the same year, he made his Europa League debut as a referee in a qualifying match between Aalesunds FK and Ferencvárosi TC. In 2012, he officiated his first Champions League match against FK Ventspils and Molde FK.
He refereed his debut international match against Portugal and Sweden in the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Final. He refereed three matches during Euro 2016, two of which were in the group stages and the other in the knockout stages. Additionally, he refereed several games during the group stages of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He will now referee Argentina vs. France’s 2022 FIFA World Cup final.
