Who Was Sudhir Suri, His Protest, Death
Leader of a local outfit that uses the name Shiv Sena Taksali, Mr Sudhir Suri was holding a protest outside a temple against its management. 5 shots were fired from a pistol, allegedly by a local shopkeeper and from which he got 2 and shot dead.
Mr Suri had police protection of around 12 men and there were local cops deployed at the spot. Despite of all the security the attacker named Sandeep Singh was successful in landing at least two shots that killed him before he could be brought to a hospital. “The weapon has been seized from the shopkeeper and further investigation is on,” stated city police chief commissioner Arun Pal Singh who did not give more details on the motive of the attacker over Suri.
Media reports tell that the attacker had come to the place with 3 others in an SUV but they escaped.
Mr Suri who was not even an electoral player was popularly known for his fiery and allegedly communal video messages on the social media targeting few of Sikh outfits and Khalistan supporters in a particular. The police commissioner appealed to the people to keep calm and not give in to any communal calls. The tense messages and conspiracy theories were revolving around residents of the Sikh holy city, states a local report.
On 4th November Mr Suri had got into an argument with few men from the management of the Gopal Mandir near Majitha Road which is one of the busiest places in the city over alleged sacrilege of idols. He has been on Facebook since an hour before the attack showing some older idols “shamelessly dumped in garbage”. “We will not tolerate such sacrilege, even if by fellow Hindus,” he said in that video.
