Anthony Knox disqualified after District 25 Tournament incident
The NJSIAA disqualified Anthony for the rest of the season after his actions at the NJSIAA District 25 Tournament brawl. The incident took place on Saturday, February 22, amidst the tournament in Collingswood High School. A fight seemingly broke out in the stands where West Deptford and St. John Vianney fans were seated. Several videos on social media showed Knox running into the stands, which is a direct violation of NJSIAA rules.
Other footage also showed Knox throwing punches, while another video showed him being escorted away in handcuffs. His father, Anthony Knox Sr., also reportedly got involved in the altercation, and authorities also led him away in handcuffs. According to NJSIAA regulations, only coaches are permitted to leave the bench area to intervene in an altercation. Any player who leaves the bench during interscholastic events is automatically disqualified.
NJSIAA issues a statement on disqualification
Following the decision to disqualify Anthony Knox, NJSIAA Executive Director Colleen Maguire addressed the situation in an official statement. She confirmed that after a thorough investigation, the body has decided to disqualify Knox from the state tournament for violating the sportsmanship policy and the disqualification rule. While acknowledging the serious impact of the decision, she emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity in high school athletics.
Maguire also went on to thank school administrators, coaches, spectators, and event staff for their cooperation throughout the investigation. She also praised the Collingswood police for their swift response and ensuring the tournament continued without further disruptions.
