Earlier today, Mulder left us all in awe after showing his prowess with figures of 4/32 against the West Indies in the 2nd Test at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

For the curious, South Africa managed 160 runs in their first innings on Day 1, a day that saw 17 wickets tumble. The West Indies resumed Day 2 at 97/7 but were eventually bowled out for 144.

Mulder’s four wickets all came on Day 1, where he bowled six overs, gave away 18 runs, and bowled two maidens. His first wicket was Kraigg Brathwaite, whom he bowled for three runs.

In the 10th over, Mulder dismissed Alick Athanaze with a caught-and-bowled, followed by Kavem Hodge in the 12th over. His final scalp was Joshua Da Silva in the 16th over.

On Day 2, Mulder was reintroduced in the ninth over, conceding 10 runs, including a six by Jason Holder. He bowled two more overs, conceding four runs to finish with 4/32 from nine overs.

About Wiaan Mulder

Born on February 19, 1998, Wiaan Mulder, is a South African first-class cricketer who made his ODI debut in October 2017 and his Test debut in March 2019. Growing up in Johannesburg, Gauteng, Wiaan Mulder represents the Imperial Lions and Gauteng in the domestic cricket.

He is a medium fast bowling all rounder and can persistently bowl in the 130-140 kmph range.

Standing at 6 ft. 2 in (188cm), Mulder’s first-class debut came while he was still playing at school, for Highveld Lions against Cape Cobras in the 2016-17 Sunfoil Series, where he took seven wickets, including 3/10 in the first innings.

Before his debut, Mulder was part of South Africa’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his T20 debut in the 2016-17 CSA T20 Challenge and his List A debut in the 2016-17 Momentum One Day Cup.

Career

Mulder has also been part of the Highveld Lions, Gauteng’s squad for the 2018 Africa T20 Cup, and Kent County Cricket Club for the 2019 County Championship.

He played 3 matches for Kent before being recalled to the South African team. In 2019, he joined the Tshwane Spartans for the Mzansi Super League and later signed with Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

In 2022, he scored his maiden double century in first-class cricket, with 235 not out for Leicestershire. Although Mulder was part of several South African squads, he didn’t play until his Test debut against Sri Lanka in February 2019 and his T20I debut against Pakistan in April 2021.

Wiaan Mulder, who was also part of South Africa’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, is married to a registered counsellor, Justine Webber. The two walked down the aisle in September 2023, after dating for a while.
