Age 21-year-old all-around player Andile Simelane had been given his debut by the hosts, South Africa against India in the first T20

The 21-year-old all-round player Andile Simelane who currently plays for the Dolphins, was raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal. He has spent a significant amount of time learning from Proteas all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo while playing for the Dolphins.

Simelane disclosed that he was initially too anxious to answer coach Rob Walter’s phone when he first learned he would be joining the Proteas team to tour the United Arab Emirates, where South Africa will play Ireland and Afghanistan, earlier this year.

“I was at home. Firstly, he sent me a message telling me that he was going to give me a call. I was surprised. I was also asking myself what he wanted to say to me,” Simelane said who then went onto tell his mom about the news who initially took it as a joke.

21-year-old cricketer Andile Simelane was born in South Africa on June 3, 2003.

Andile is from KwaMashu, a town 12km north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal with him going to the Mpumelelo Primary School in KwaMashu with him beginning by playing in the KFC Mini League. He then attended the Maritzburg College 85km away in the hills of KwaZulu-Natal.

He got a scholarship in Grade 6 to attend Maritzburg College and after his exploits with the SA U19 team in the Caribbean two years ago, Simelane has developed into a regular for his local provincial team, the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins.

He then got a call-up to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape squad as their rookie pick. He can persistently bowl in the 140-145 kmph range.

Andile Simelane career

On January 26, 2020, Andile Simelane made his List A debut for KwaZulu-Natal in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge for 2019–20. On October 8, 2021, he made his Twenty20 debut for the South Africa Under-19s in the CSA Provincial T20 Knock-Out competition for 2021–2022.

He was a part of South Africa’s squad for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in November 2021 in the West Indies. He made his Dolphins first-class debut in the 2022–2023 CSA 4-Day Series competition on February 19, 2023.

In Friday’s first Twenty20 International, South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to field against India.

The series between the two teams will consist of four games.

In the opening game of the four-game Twenty20 series, India defeated South Africa by 61 runs on Friday at Kingsmead in Durban thanks to a brilliant century from opener Sanju Samson.
