Mazel Paris Alegado, a nine-year-old Filipino who should be in first grade, is instead grabbing attention after qualifying for the women’s skateboarding park event at the current Asian Games 2023 on Monday.

Alegado, the youngest competitor from her nation in this year’s continental championship, placed seventh during the qualification round with a highest score of 56.96 points to advance to the eight-person final at the Qiantang Roller Sports Centre.

She said she skated up to eight hours a day to perfect her skating for the international stage, as per a report in CNN. Mazel Paris Alegado is a nine-year-old skateboarding competitor in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China who is said to be the youngest competitor there.

Alegado is said to be failing from California, United States and turned nine in March, claiming that her brother introduced her to skateboarding while they were visiting a cousin’s house. She practised in Portugal ahead of participating in the Asian Games held in China. She was just five tears old when she first started skating hoping that one day she will be playing at the Asian Games.

She asked him to try it. She said, as per a report in CNN: 

And I was like, ‘Can I try? Can I try?’

She further continued:

And I got on the board and just loved it.”

She competed on behalf of the Philippines, making it into the “women’s” park final, where she finished seventh out of eight athletes.

She was asked if her brother still does skating to which she replied:
