For the unversed, in the midst of the widespread unrest in Bangladesh, actor Shanto Khan, and his film producer father, who was also the chairman of Laxmipur Model Union Parishad, Selim Khan, were beaten to death by a mob on Monday.

As per the local media outlets, Shanto and his father tried to flee from the Forkkabad Bazaar in Balia Union Parishad on Monday but they were intercepted by an angry mob.
The father-son duo reportedly fired shots in self-defense as tried to flee, however, they were caught by another mob near Bagara Bazaar, where they were reportedly lynched.

For the context, these violent protests, initially began over reservations in government jobs, escalated into demands for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, forcing her to flee to India.
Several members of her party were lynched and targeted during the unrest. Reports indicates that Selim Khan, was a former leader of the Awami League, Sheikh Hasina’s political party.
He had been expelled from the party and was facing corruption charges brought by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
About Selim Khan
For the curious, Selim Khan was a prominent figure in Bengali cinema, having produced several films featuring Tollywood stars, including the hit films “Shahenshah” and “Bidrohi,” which starred Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan.
He also directed the film “Tungi Parar Miya Bhai,” which depicted key moments in the life of Bangladesh’s founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This film marked the debut of his son, Shanto Khan.
About Shanto Khan
For the unfamiliar, Shanto Khan who was a Muslim by religion came to the spotlight after appearing in 2019’s movie “Prem Chor.” He later appeared in films such as “Bikkhov” (2022) alongside Srabanti Chatterjee, Rajatava Dutta, and Joydeep Mukherjee. A year later he appeared in“Bubujaan.”
As per the official site of IMDb, Shanto had appeared in a item song alongside Sunny Leone in Bikkhov, a movie which is based on a story of student movement 2018 in Bangladesh.
He also appeared in Tungipara Miya Bhai movie which was directed by his father Selim Khan. In the movie, Shanto Khan performed the role of young age of Bangladesh’ founding father.
As per reports, Selim Khan owned Shapla Media, a Dhaka-based media and entertainment company that produced and distributed Bengali films.
