16-year-old Shane Kluivert has signed his first professional contract with Barcelona.
He's the son of Netherlands legend and former Barcelona striker, Patrick Kluivert, and younger brother of Justin Kluivert.

Patrick Kluivert is a Barca legend who played for the club in the La Liga from 1998 to 2004 before leaving for Premier League club Newcastle United in July 2004.
During his time at Camp Nou, the Dutchman helped his side win the La Liga in 1999, and was widely considered as the greatest striker in the world.
Kluivert junior signed his first professional contract on Monday, having turned 16 and become eligible to do so on Sunday and while he’s signed a three year contract at the club, his salary isn’t known.
Shane Kluivert bio and age
Shane Patrick Kluivert is a Dutch footballer was born on September 24, 2007 in Zaandam, Netherlands. He was born to parents Patrick Kluivert and Rossana Lima, and he is currently just 16 years old. Shane primarily plays as a striker, just like his father, Patrick Kluivert and featured for the Netherlands U16 team back in 2022.
Aside from playing football, Kluivert has a passion for cooking and runs an Instagram and YouTube account dedicated to it. Moreover, he has already published two cooking books ata very young age. The first book is called Koken met Shane (Cooking with Shane) released in 2018, while the second was released in 2020, and it is called Vega met Shane (Vegan with Shane).

Kluivert comes from a family with a rich footballing heritage. Most notably, his father, Patrick Kluivert, played for numerous top clubs across Europe as well as for the Netherlands national football team. His grandfather Kenneth Kluivert was a former Surinamese international footballer. Meanwhile, his half-brothers, Justin, Quincy, and Ruben, are all professional footballers. In fact, Justin has also represented the Netherlands at the international level.
Club and international career
Shane Kluivert started out his footballing career with Amsterdam-based club Buitenveldert. He eventually moved to French side Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, where his father was working as the technical director. However, he soon left the club to join his father’s former club Barcelona in August 2017. The youngster has now signed a new contract to join Barcelona’s U18 team.
On the international stage, Kluivert has previously represented the Netherlands at the under-16 level. He received his first call-up back in September 2022 and also remains eligible to represent Suriname as well.
Sponsorships deals
Shane signed a sponsorship deal with American sportswear manufacturer Nike back in July 2017 when he was just aged nine. He was the youngest ever European athlete to secure a clothing contract at the time. He recently extended this contract last year in 2022.
Shane Kluivert controversial U16 goal
Just a few months back, Shane Kluivert and Barcelona received immense criticism after he striker scored a controversial goal against Crystal Palace at an U16 competition. During the match, the game came to a stop after a Barcelona player fell injured. While this happened, the Eagles went to the sidelines for a water break and talk with their manager.
However, much to their surprise, the injured player suddenly got up and started running. The Barcelona keeper quickly reacted and passed the ball to Shane Kluivert when there were no Crystal Palace players on the pitch. The Eagles’ players soon realized the events unfolding and started sprinting to defend their goal. However, Kluivert managed to score an unguarded goal, to make the score 3-0.
Barcelona eventually ended up winning the match with a final 4-0 score and also went on to win the tournament. Interestingly, while many fans praise the play and called it a “high-IQ move”, some called it the “dirtiest move” ever.
