Wiegman on England’s performance said that the team came extremely near to scoring a few times, and their defence was strong as well, but they must continue to try and improve, beginning tomorrow. She further continued that the team needs “ruthlessness”.

Sarina Petronella Wiegman, popularly known as Sarina Wiegman-Glotzbach, was born in the Netherlands on October 26, 1969. She has served as the coach of the England women’s national team since September 2021.
Since Wiegman’s appointment in 2021, the Lionesses’ reputation has evolved from that of a gifted but unfinished team to that of a true world-class side. The 53-year-old Dutch head coach, who has been praised for her impact on the team, will hope to convert continental victory into a shot at world championship trophy in the coming months.
Prior to going back to the Netherlands to play for Ter Leede, she spent a season playing for the North Carolina Tar Heels while attending the University of North Carolina. In addition to winning two Dutch championships with Ter Leede and 99 caps for the Netherlands, Wiegman complemented her playing career with a work as a physical education teacher in her hometown of The Hague.
Wiegman was offered the position of head coach at Ter Leede in 2006 after she retired from football in 2003. She later held the position for a while at ADO Den Haag before becoming an assistant manager for the Dutch national team. At the start of the year in which they hosted Euro 2017, Wiegman was eventually chosen as the permanent manager of the Dutch women’s national team. She had an immediate impact as the hosts quickly won their first major championship that summer before falling to the USWNT in the 2019 World Cup final.
Wiegman chose England over the Netherlands despite her stellar performance with the Oranje in 2021. The fact that the Euro 2021 competition was postponed and shifted to 2022 did not stop Wiegmann’s England team from setting records for high-scoring victories on the way to defeating Germany in the championship game at a packed Wembley stadium.
A look at the World Cup coaching track record for Sarina Wiegman
Although Wiegman was a member of Roger Reijners’ coaching staff during the 2015 World Cup, the 2019 competition is her only international head coaching experience. The Netherlands were in excellent position going all the way to the Lyon final with six straight victories, but the USWNT’s skill and experience shone through as they successfully defended their world championship title.
