Who is Vlatko Andonovski?
The head coach of the U.S. women’s team, who is 46 years old, was born in Yugoslavia (a region that is now North Macedonia), on September 14, 1976. Before relocating to the United States for a six-year professional indoor football career and retiring in 2006, the coach had a successful European professional career with numerous Macedonian clubs.
In 2013, he began working as the head coach of FC Kansas City of the NWSL in addition to overseeing his former indoor squad, the Missouri Comets. The same year he won the NWSL championship with FCKC, he won the indoor championship with the Comets.
Andonovski was appointed head coach of the Seattle Reign in 2018. He served in that position for two seasons before being chosen to lead the United States national team after Jill Ellis announced her retirement after winning the 2019 World Cup. Since then, he has held that position and has guided the United States to a steady No. 1 status on the FIFA world list.
