A 12-year-old girl who had been sexually assaulted and was in need of help wandered aimlessly from one house to another on the streets of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, which was the subject of the cartoon, which described the horrific event that took place there. There was a justifiable public outrage as this upsetting footage of the event gained widespread social media exposure.

However, the cartoon of Sandeep Adhwarya went viral for all the wrong reasons, with internet users condemning it for being loaded with propaganda and many seeing it as an attempt to disseminate falsehoods about Hindus. Netizens also drew attention to the fact that the girl received garments from a kind priest who worships cows and hurried her to the hospital.

After the outcry, Adhwarya moved to social media to claim that Time of India had nothing to do with the cartoon and that it was created in his own capacity. Although he was not apologizing for the contentious cartoon per se but rather for inserting the emblem of a group that may sue him, he took down the one with the TOI logo and deleted it.
