Ryan Peake started out his career as a teenager, showcasing immense golf talent. He even teamed up alongside future Open Champion Cameron Smith to win the Trans-Tasman Cup back in 2010. However, despite his potential, Peake strayed from the sport during his early 20s, after joining the Rebel Motorcycle Gang. His decision soon took a toll after his 21st birthday, when he received a five-year prison sentence for assault.
During his time in jail, however, Peake reconnected with the sport after renowned coach Ritchie Smith reached out to him. Following his release, Peake dedicated himself to rebuilding his career, eventually earning a full card on the Australasian Tour for the 2024-25 season. Peake has finally made the most of his comeback with his recent win at the New Zealand Open.
During Sunday’s final round, Peake made the most of his turn with four birdies in the first 12 holes. After tying Koh for the lead, he scored a crucial birdie on the par-5 17th, giving him a one-shot lead. Ryan Peak, however, faces pressure after taking a miss and overhitting his pitch shot on the par-3 18th. Despite the setback, he held his nerve and sank an uphill eight-foot putt. Following the win, he secured his first professional win. Peake’s recent New Zealand Open win secured him a $201,600 AUD ($124,900 USD) payout but his net worth isn’t known.
