Ana Barbosu bio
Ana Maria Barbosu is a Romanian artistic gymnast who was born on July 26, 2006, in Focșani, Romania. She is currently just 18 years old and is the 2020 European junior team and all-around champion nut her height isn’t known. Barbosu also notably won a silver at the 2020 Romanian national all-around championships.
Club and coach
Ana Barbosu is a member of the CSS Focșani club and trains under head coach Lucian Sandu.
Junior gymnastics career
Barbosu started out her junior career in the Junior II Level 3 division at the 2017 Romanian Junior Championships. She finished fourth in the all-around and fifth on vault and fourth on uneven bars. She managed to earn a silver medal on balance beam as well as a bronze medal on floor. Barbosu then won gold in the all-around at the domestic Petrom Cup in June, and then another gold in the Espoir division at the 2019 Romanian Junior Championships.
Ana Barbosu then won bronze in the all-around at the senior Championships in September. The following month, she almost made a clean sweep at the Romanian Individual Championships. She won the all-around and every event except for vault, where she won silver. Barbosu eventually made her junior international debut in November at the Swiss Cup in Wallisellen. There, she won a gold with the Romanian team as well as individually in the all-around. Barbosu then competed at the Horizon Cup in Thessaloniki, Greece and won the Espoir 2006 all-around title.
At the 2020 Romanian Championships, Barbosu won the silver medal, and won all-around gold, besides sweeping the event titles. A such, Barbosu featured on the nominative team for the 2020 European Junior Championships, where she led the Romanian team to a gold medal finish. She also won the all-around individual title and then won gold in all four event finals.
Ana Barbosu won another gold on the uneven bars at the Romanian Championships, and won silver on floor and the all-around. Her last junior competition was at the Top Gym Tournament in Belgium, where she won the all-around, and won gold in the uneven bars and balance beam finals.
Senior gymnastics career
Barbosu became age-eligible for senior-level competitions in 2022, making her senior debut at the City of Jesolo Trophy. She finished fourteenth in the all-around and eighth on the uneven bars. She then competed at the Osijek World Challenge Cup, winning a gold on floor exercise, and bronze on balance beam.
Ana Barbosu then helped Romania qualify a full team for the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool. Barbosu then won gold on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise at the Mersin Challenge Cup in October 2022. She also competed at the 2023 World Championships alongside Lilia Cosman, Amalia Ghigoarta, Sabrina Voinea, and Andreea Preda. Although they finished only in tenth place, they qualified a team to the 2024 Olympic Games. Barbosu also qualified individually for the all-around final, finishing in twenty-third.
