Who is Mahesh Kumar?

Mahesh Kumar is a net bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore who is also an engineering graduation. Before joining the Bangalore based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the 27-year-old was a part of Gujarat Titans.

Hailing from Doddaballapur outside Bengaluru, the 27-year-old has played mainly club cricket but he has not made it to the first-class or List A level yet.

The fast bowler also has an engineering degree as well as his own YouTube channel, where he spoke about how it was his mother’s dream to make him a cricketer.

Mahesh bowled in the nets for RCB in 2019, called up by bowling coach Ashish Nehra and was once again called up by Nehra in 2022, to bowl in the Gujarat Titans nets before once again being part of RCB in 2024.

 

Back in 2019, when Bumrah was sidelined with shoulder injury, he missed a net bowling session however, cricket fans witnessed something satisfying in his absence, at the at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Since 2018, Kumar has been a bowler for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team. He and Bumrah have a similar run-up and stiff arm movement. In 2017, he took the pitch for the first time for Team India and was invited by now Titans coach Ashish Nehra. The coach even gifted him a pair of shoes at the end of the training session.

As per The Sportstar, the net bowler stated that the “team was impressed and I have been bowling to India players since then.” However, he got one advice when he met Virat Kohli. While he stated that his encounter with the former Indian captain was “special,” he got one guidance from the RCB batter. Mahesh was asked to continue with his “strength” however, “not copy anyone.”

Mahesh often posts pictures with his family on his official social media accounts. Wishing birthday to his father, the bowler thanked him for “every positives” in his life.
