The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which competed in the municipal elections in Madhya Pradesh for the first time, did spectacularly well. Rani Agarwal of the AAP won the race for mayor of Singrauli by 9,352 votes, defeating BJP candidate Prakash Vishwakarma.

34,038 votes were cast for the AAP candidate, 24,879 for the BJP, and 24,60 for Congress candidate Arvind Chandel. A year before the 2023 Assembly elections, her victory provided the AAP cadre in Madhya Pradesh with some much-needed optimism.
Since then, other politicians, including Delhi’s CM Arvind Kejriwal, have praised her for pulling off this incredible win. Taking to Twitter, CM Kejriwal wrote,

Who Is Rani Agrawal?
Rani Agarwal is an Indian politician who has recently been in the news after she won the mayoral election from Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh.
She was born in 1976. Her higher education is 12th standard and she attended Shiksha Niketan Inter College, Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh. No criminal cases were registered against her. Presently, she is 39 years old.
Prior to joining politics, she has been associated with social service and activism. She has been associated with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) presently.
Her Career
She served as the village sarpanch of Baragwa. She was also chosen to serve in the Zila panchayat from Ward 3.
Agrawal ran for the Singrauli seat in the 2018 Assembly elections, however, he was unsuccessful. She received 32,500 votes while finishing third.
Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and the chief minister of Delhi, supported her during the local body elections and did a road show in support of her. It paid off in the mayoral elections when she won handily the mayoral seat from Singrauli and opened doors for the AAP in Madhya Pradesh.
