Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star player Virat Kohli recently paid a visit to Rajkumar Sharma, his childhood coach, before the team’s match against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The endearing scene was recorded on camera and uploaded to the Indian Premier League’s official Twitter account (IPL).
A well-known personality in the cricketing world and the recipient of the coveted Dronacharya Award from the Government of India in 2016, Rajkumar Sharma is credited with discovering Virat Kohli’s potential when he was a youngster.
As Kohli returned to Delhi for the match against the Delhi Capitals, he made a special effort to meet his coach and sought his blessings by touching his feet, a traditional Indian gesture of respect towards elders and teachers.

Rajkumar Sharma is a well-known Indian cricket coach. He has been in the news because his student star player, Virat Kohli, recently paid a visit to him at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
He was born in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 18, 1965, and is a cricket coach and a former Ranji Trophy player. He is currently 57 years old.
His career
During his playing days, Rajkumar Sharma played for Delhi in various List A games, as well as First Class Cricket, matches from 1986 to 1991. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. He received the Dronacharya Award for his coaching on September 29, 2016. His current net worth is between $1-5 million.
During the Spain Triangular T20I Series from March 29 to March 31, 2019, he was named coach of the national cricket team of Malta. He currently serves as the senior men’s bowling coach for the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA).
On May 30, 1998, Rajkumar Sharma established the West Delhi Cricket Academy, where many notable cricketers, including Virat Kohli, have been trained. In 2016, the Indian government presented him with the Dronacharya Award for his coaching skills.
Following are the West Delhi Cricket Academy monthly fees:
- The West Delhi Cricket Academy registration fee is INR 10,000, and it is compulsory for all players above the age of 14.
- The West Delhi/ Virat Kohli Cricket Academy in Delhi fees will be INR 5,000 for three months.
- All the trainees must maintain white cricket attire and have to be on time during everyday coaching.
- The age limit for admission is 7 years to 18 years.
- Admission for children of 7 to 14 years is taken without trials.
- Access for children of 14 years to 18 years will be done based on the trials conducted at the academy.
- Trials will only be conducted on Thursdays at 3:30 pm.
- Players have to bring their cricket kit for trials.
- Days of coaching at PaschimVihar Centre commence on Thursday, Friday, Saturday (3:30 pm to 6:30 pm), and Sunday (7 am to 10:30 am).
