Rachel Morsett who was a mother of three from Kansas found out she had stage four tongue cancer last year. She went to the doctor because she had trouble eating due to a sore in her mouth. At first, the doctor thought it might be a symptom of her Crohn’s disease.
The results of the biopsy shattered Rachel’s world. At just 35 years old, she received the devastating diagnosis of stage four squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. For a woman who had no history of smoking or tobacco use, the news was particularly bewildering.
She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Shawn, and had three young children namely Audrey, nine, Vanessa, seven, and Heath, barely a year old.
With the cancer spreading to lymph nodes in her throat and lungs, Rachel’s situation worsesned. Masses obstructed her airway, prompting emergency measures including the insertion of a stent to facilitate breathing. But Rachel refused to succumb to despair. Her determination to witness her children’s milestones and meet her future grandchildren fuelled her resolve to fight with the disease.
After, Rachel found out she had cancer, she started sharing her journey on TikTok @morsett. When she passed away, many of her followers on social media offered their condolences. Many people have been following Rachel’s story and were impressed by her strength.
Rachel’s journey embodies resilience in the face of adversity.
