The house and office of filmmaker Sukumar in Hyderabad were raided by Income Tax agents on January 22. According to reports, the raids started early in the morning and lasted for many hours.
Sukumar, who was at Hyderabad airport at the time, was accompanied by IT officers back to his apartment for the inspection. But as of yet, neither the results nor the reason for the raids have been made public. The timing of the raids coincides with Sukumar’s recent success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna. The film has been a massive box-office hit, earning over Rs.1,500 crores globally. Despite the success, the director now faces inquiry from tax officials.

On January 11, 1970, Sukumar was born into a Telugu-speaking Hindu Kapu family in Mattaparru, a village close to Malikipuram in Andhra Pradesh’s former East Godavari district. He is 5ft 6in tall. His mother, Veera Veni, was a housewife, while his father, Tirupathi Rao Naidu, was a rice dealer.

Sukumar spent over seven years teaching physics and mathematics at a junior college before to going into the movie business. He worked with Editor Mohan as a writer to start his film career before helping V. V. Vinayak with Dil (2003). Arya (2004), which Sukumar directed for the first time, was a huge hit. He won the Nandi Award for Best Screenplay Writer and the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Director for his work on Arya.

Sukumar Writings ended up making Rs.190 from Pushpa 2 and as per reports, Rs 100 crore is the sum that was agreed upon by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar for Pushpa 2. It was also being said that Sukumar will receive a stake in the OTT business as well as a fixed paycheck although the exact net worth of Sukumar isn’t known.
