Interestingly, the Spanish and British royal families are technically related, as both families are directly descended from King Christian IX of Denmark and Queen Victoria of England.

Princess Leonor officially sworn in
Leonor turned 18 years old just yesterday, on October 31, 2023, as a result of which there was a coming-of-age ceremony in parliament. Leonor took part in an oath-swearing ceremony in the Spanish Constitution, marking her as the official next in line to the throne. If she does become queen, she will be the first Queen Regnant in over 155 years, ever since her fourth great-grandmother Isabella II.
Spanish Royal Family current line of succession
At present, King Felipe VI is the king of Spain, after he and his wife, Queen Letizia, inherited the Spanish throne back on June 19, 2014. Felipe’s father abdicated the throne, leaving it to his son. Notably, the Spanish throne follows male preference, where a male heir automatically inherits the throne. As a result, King Felipe inherited the throne even though he has an older sister named Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lego, who is five years older than her.
Next in line to King Felipe is his firstborn and Spanish heir, Princess Leonor, who has only one female sibling. If she inherits the throne, she will be the first Queen Regnant since her fourth great-grandmother, Isabella II. Isabella II reigned over Spain from 1833 to 1868. However, if her father, King Felipe, has another son before she becomes the Queen, the newborn son will automatically overrule Leonor’s claim to the throne.
Princess Leonor military academy
Earlier this year, on August 17, 2023, Princess Leonor joined the military academy, just like her father did in 1985. Similar to her father, Leonor will also study one year at the General Military Academy and one year at the Escuela Naval Militar (Military Navy School). She will then finish off at the Academia General del Aire (Military Air Academy). Back in October, on Spain’s National Day, she wore the country’s military uniform out in public.
Princess Leonor dating life and marriage
Gabriel Giacomelli’s alleged relationship with Princess Leonor made international headlines, especially in Europe and he is one year Leonor’s senior, at 19 years old. Though he comes from money, he’s not a millionaire himself, per se (at least, not yet) as his parents, who have found success in their respective fields, hold all the wealth. His father is an investment banker at Deutsche Bank in Germany, while his mother works in advertising and they hail from Brazil, while Gabriel himself grew up in New York.
Gabriel attended an elite boarding school in Brooklyn before moving to the U.K., where he played soccer and lacrosse and immersed himself in art and in addition to Portuguese, his mother’s native tongue, he also speaks English (like Princess Leonor) and some German.
If Leonor ends up marrying a commoner, her husband will be named King Consort and receive an honorary title. Her father, Felipe also married a commoner, Queen Letizia, who comes from a middle-class background in Otezia, Northern Spain.
Princess Leonor social media
While Leonor does not have her own official personal social media account, the Spanish royal family does have an official Twitter account with the handle @CasaReal, where they often post updates on every family member.
