Payton Wilson is an American college football linebacker who was born on April 21, 2000, in Hillsborough, North Carolina, U.S. The 23-year-old stands 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) tall. Wilson attended Orange High School and was raised in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
A look at Payton Wilson’s career so far
Wilson was the 2023 Chuck Bednarik Award and Butkus Award winner while playing collegiate football at NC State. He recorded 127 tackles as a junior, including 39 stops for loss and 13 sacks.
Wilson, a four-star prospect, initially chose to attend North Carolina (UNC) for his collegiate football career over offers from Virginia Tech, Ohio State, and Clemson. He eventually signed to play for North Carolina State after later withdrawing from UNC.
Talking about his college career, Wilson missed his true freshman season at NC State due to a second knee injury he sustained during summer training camp.
