Wilson was the 2023 Chuck Bednarik Award and Butkus Award winner while playing collegiate football at NC State. He recorded 127 tackles as a junior, including 39 stops for loss and 13 sacks.

Wilson, a four-star prospect, initially chose to attend North Carolina (UNC) for his collegiate football career over offers from Virginia Tech, Ohio State, and Clemson. He eventually signed to play for North Carolina State after later withdrawing from UNC.
