The Sun reports that Chelsea would appoint AS Monaco’s sports director Paul Mitchell to a top post at the London club.

The 41-year-old had previously worked for RB Leipzig, Southampton, and Tottenham Hotspur. He gets along well with the incoming Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Consortium, Chelsea’s new owners, have invested more than £600 million in new player purchases during the previous two transfer windows.

Despite the substantial expenditure, Chelsea has had a difficult year.

The team presently holds the 12th spot in the Premier League and had early exits in domestic cup events. They showed tactical ignorance as Real Madrid eliminated them from the Champions League.

Mitchell had been a target at Chelsea and Manchester United. As Erik ten Hag had hoped, he was not given the chance to run things at United.

The Englishman reportedly tried to get a position at Newcastle United but was rejected.

With his recent deal with Chelsea, Mitchell now seems to be making a comeback to the Premier League.

The man credited with signing Sadio Mane and Heung-min Son has the challenging task of trimming Chelsea’s massive squad.
