Local media reported that Nilesh Kumbhani, the leader of the Surat Congress, who had his nomination as a candidate for Lok Sabha got rejected due to purported irregularities. He was not present and could not be reached by phone. This occurred one day before all opposition contenders withdrew from the race and Mukesh Dalal of the BJP was proclaimed the winner.

Congressmen displayed banners that said “janata ka gaddar (people’s traitor)” outside Mr. Kumbhani’s closed home in protest of rumours that he could join the BJP.
The unexpected developments come after the BJP’s unprecedented victory in Surat for the Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi received “the first lotus” from Surat, according to Gujarat BJP president CR Paatil. He congratulated the candidate for Surat Lok Sabha seat Mukesh Dalal on X.
Citing “wrong and undue influence” by the ruling BJP in Gujarat, the Congress has contacted the Election Commission and requested a resumption of the voting process.
A spokesperson named Abhishek Singhvi from Congress said, “We have therefore requested the Election Commission to postpone the election in Surat and redo the election shorty to send a clear message that you cannot take advantage of this kind of wrong undue influence.”
Four people nominated Kumbhani, a Congress candidate, in Surat, according to Mr. Singhvi, but, suddenly all four stood up and denied their signatures.
According to him, this is not a coincidence. After the candidate disappeared for several hours, they discovered that all of the other contenders have withdrew their candidatures. The returning officer rejected his candidature as well.
