This 59-year-old scientist, a native of Tenakasi, Tamil Nadu, led a team of committed coworkers to successfully launch the PSLV C57.1 rocket carrying Aditya L-1.

Who is Nigar Shaji?
Nigar Shaji is an Indian space scientist. She has been in the news because she is the project director of the recently launched Aditya-L1 mission, Indiaโs ambitious solar mission.
She was born in Sengottai, Tamil Nadu. Her father is Sheikh Meeran, a farmer, and her mother is Saitoon Biwi, a homemaker. She also has one brother named S. Sheik Saleem.
Nigar Shaji attended Tirunelveli Government Engineering College for her undergraduate studies in electronics and communication engineering after finishing her secondary education. She then attended the Birla Institute of Technology in Ranchi for her master’s degree in the same field.
She presently resides in Bengaluru with her mother and daughter. She has a spouse who works as an engineer in the Middle East but his name isn’t known and a scientist son who lives in the Netherlands.
Nigar Shaji is currently 59 years old. While her salary isn’t known, an ISRO director makes Rs.2.5 lakhs monthly. She is a Muslim by religion.
Her career
At the Satish Dhawan Space Center, Nigar Shaji began her successful career in 1987, beginning her incredible adventure in the realm of space science. In the course of her career, Shaji lent her knowledge to the space agency’s numerous fields, including design, control systems, satellite technology, and communication.
She also became the Deputy Project Director for Resourcesat-2A, an important Indian remote sensing satellite for managing and monitoring national resources. Her professional path led her to Bengaluru’s UR Rao Satellite Center, where she held important roles.
She also oversaw the Satellite Telemetry Center at ISRO in Bangalore, demonstrating her managerial skills and direct engagement in crucial space program components. Significantly, Nigar Shaji took on the position of project director for India’s ground-breaking Aditya L-1 solar mission. The mission launched successfully from Sriharikota on September 2.
