Australian 56-year-old Sandy Brondello was born on 20 August 1968. She is 1.70m tall. German Olaf Lange, a basketball coach and assistant coach at Liberty, is her husband with the two getting married in 2005. They are parents to Brody and Jayda. Sandy was born to Australian parents Estelle Brondello and Dino Brondello.

Brondello was raised on her parents’ sugar cane farm in Mackay, Queensland. She began playing basketball at the age of nine on a grass court her father had constructed in the backyard. In the Women’s National Basketball League of Australia, where Brondello started her career, she was awarded the 1992 Australian Basketball Player of the Year title.

Australian women’s basketball coach Sandra Anne Brondello is now the head coach of both the Australian women’s national team and the New York Liberty of the WNBA. Brondello played in the WNBA, Australia, and Germany before stepping down to take up coaching.

As a player, she won three medals (one bronze, two silvers), and as a coach, she earned one bronze. She represented Australia in four Summer Olympics as a member of the “Opals” national team. She was admitted to the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010 after attending the Australian Institute of Sport from 1986 to 1987.

The Phoenix Mercury recruited Brondello in November 2013 to take over as temporary coach in place of Russ Pennell. The Phoenix Mercury revealed on December 6, 2021, that head coach Sandy Brondello had reached a mutual agreement to leave the team and that her contract, which ran out at the end of the 2021 season, would not be extended.

In January 2022, New York Liberty signed Sandy Brondello for an annual salary of $500,000 with her net worth at $3 million.
