Who is Najam Sethi PCB chief, his biography, age, family, wife, education, latest news

Najam Sethi is a well-known journalist who hails from Pakistan. He is also a businessman as well as a cricket administrator. Pakistan Cricket Board is having Sethi as their present president. Najam is also the founder of Vanguard Books as well as The Friday Times.

Najam Sethi’s family and education

Najam Sethi got married to his fellow journalist named Jugnu Mohsin who is the publisher of The Friday Times. They both have two children named singer Ali Sethi and journalist and actress Mira Sethi. He was born to his parents Mian Muhammad Sharif, his father while his mother’s name was Begum Shamim Akhtar.

Sethi graduated from the Government College, Lahore, Pakistan, in 1967 where he received the President’s Gold Medal for standing first among over 90,000 children.

Najam Sethi professional career

Najam Sethi conceived the idea for an independent Pakistani newspaper out of frustration, while he was briefly imprisoned in early 1984 on trumped-up copyright charges, no newspapers had protested his arrest. Sethi and his wife Mohsin decided to apply for a publishing license under the name of Mohsin. It was finally approved by 1987, but Mohsin requested one-year delay to avoid any type of issue coming out during the dictatorship of General Zia ul Haq. The first paper issue appeared in May of 1989.

Najam Sethi was appointed as caretaker Chief Minister of the Punjab on 26th of March in 2013 during 2012 general elections. Prime Minister of  Pakistan Nawaz Sharif appointed Najam Aziz as acting chairman for the Pakistan Cricket Board after the the High Court ordered appointment of an interim chairman until a pending case on Zaka Ashraf who was the chairman was decided.

Later on, a two-member bench of Islamabad high court cleared up Zaka Ashraf and ordered to restore him as a chairman of PCB. Najam Sethi then relinquished chairmanship. After the collapse of Imran Khan’s government in April of 2022, Najam Sethi was later appointed in the December of 2022, as chairman alongside 13 board members again by the PM Shehbaz Sharif.
