BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal wins unopposed

Mukesh Dalal from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) yesterday, on April 22, won Gujarat’s Surat Lok Sabha constituency. The decision came after a series of events, starting with the election officer cancelling Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani’s nomination.

The election officer cancelled it over alleged “fake signatures of people who signed as witnesses.” The other eight candidates for the seat also withdrew their nominations. Notably, Gujarat has a total of 26 Lok Sabha seats, with the polling set to take place in the third phase, i.e., on May 7. The BJP have managed to win all the parliamentary seats in the state in the last two Lok Sabha polls, 2014 and 2019.
