Fernando Alonso’s six podium results in eight races for Aston Martin at the beginning of the year made them the surprise package. Stroll has been a major letdown all season long and hasn’t been able to compete with his colleague in any way.
Lance Stroll has been incredibly disappointing all season long and hasn’t been able to compete with his partner. According to a report from F1Maximaal, Stroll’s poor results are seriously hurting the team, and Aston Martin cannot afford to keep using him. This is according to 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg.
Throughout the 2023 season, Stroll has primarily played in Alonso’s absence. Although he has had a few successful performances this season, including a P4 in Australia and P6s in Bahrain and Spain, the rest of the campaign has been incredibly disappointing for him.
Stroll is now under criticism from ex-Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg after a terrible performance in the Italian GP. Stroll had a respectable season debut, where he was able to maintain a competitive distance from Alonso, according to Rosberg, who was speaking on the Sky Sports F1 podcast. He stated:
In the long term, Aston cannot afford to have one driver who lags far behind.”
Rosberg outlined the necessity of a competitive driver partnership and added:
Fernando must be challenged. The setup work is better when there are two drivers who really go for it. It’s a different dynamic. It is important to have two fast drivers.”
Given that teams like McLaren and Williams are stepping up and strengthening their vehicles, both drivers must start contributing frequently to Aston Martin’s point total. Otherwise, the Silverstone team might have trouble finishing even in the top 4.
