Open AI appoints Mira Murati as the new interim CEO
OpenAI has appointed Mira Murati as its new interim CEO after recently announcing the sacking of its former CEO and co-founder, Sam Altman. Prior to the appointment, the company announced the sacking of Sam in an official statement on Friday, November 17. The company announced:
The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”
Meanwhile, Altman also went on to share his views on Twitter, shortly after the board fired him by saying:
Today was a weird experience in many ways. but one unexpected one is that it has been sorta like reading your own eulogy while you’re still alive. the outpouring of love is awesome (SIC).”
Mira Murati biography and age
Mira Murati is the newly appointed interim CEO of OpenAI. She was born on December 16, 1988, in Vlorë, Albania. She is an engineer and business executive who was born to Albanian parents and educated in Canada. Murati is currently 34 years old as of November 2023.
The claim that Murati is Indian is false and the 34-year-old mechanical engineer is born to Albanian parents and studied in Canada. The names of her parents aren’t known though. She is single and unmarried.
Murati attended Dartmouth College, Pearson College, UWC (Private School), and United World Colleges to obtain her educational degrees. Notably, she built a hybrid race car as her senior project back at Dartmouth College.
Mira Murati professional career
Murati began her professional career as an intern at Goldman Sachs. Following which, she switched to Zodiac Aerospace before spending three years at Tesla and working on the popular Model X. She later joined OpenAI around 2018, as the Vice President of AI and Partnerships. She later got promoted to Senior Vice President of Research, Products, and Partnerships in 2020. Murati eventually got appointed as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the company in 2022.
Besides serving her role as the CTO, Murati also served on the leadership teams that worked on developing ChatGPT, Dall-E and Codex at OpenAI. She also worked on developing some of the other advanced and innovative chatbots created for generating natural and coherent text based on various web-curated data.
Following her appointment, Mira Murati wrote in a memo:
We are now at a crucial juncture where our tools are being widely adopted, developers are actively building on our platforms, and policymakers are deliberating on the best ways to regulate these systems.”
She further added:
This is welcome progress and an opportunity to participate in a future where AI is built and used for good.”
According to various sources, Mira Murati has an estimated net worth of around $1–2 million. Her salary at OpenAI isn’t known yet.
