Andrea Kimi Antonelli is an Italian racing driver who was born on 25 August 2006 in Bologna, Italy. Interestingly, his birth place in Bologna, is just 40km from the Imola circuit.
Despite being just 16 years old, Kimi already has an impressive array of performances under his belt. He has even acted in movies like Italian Race and Babyracer. Most impressively, Kimi is currently set to race in the upcoming 2023 Formula Regional European Championship with Prema Racing.

Career titles and achievements
Given below are the various titles and achievements that Kimi has won throughout his short career so far:
- Won the WSK Euro Series and Super Master Series titles in the OK Junior category in 2018
- Finished runner-up in the FIA Karting European Championship
- Fifth in the World Championship before moving up to the OK class
- Made his debut in single-seaters for Prema Racing in the Italian F4 Championship in 2021, just three weeks after turning 15
- Bagged podium finishes in the final three races of the Italian F4 Championship in 2021
- Won both the ADAC and Italian titles with Prema in the F4 series in 2022,
- Set to compete in the Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA)
Following his successive wins and achievements, Kimi attracted Mercedes’ attention. Following which, the German team decided to give Antonelli a spot on their driver academy programme back in 2019.
Interestingly, it is the same programme that helped current British star George Russell and Esteban Ocon progress to Formula One. Antonelli will be looking to make the best of his opportunity and make a similar progression to the highest level in the sport.
Toto Wolff speaks out on Kimi
Mercedes principal Toto Wolff was full of praise for young driver and stated:
“He has a great talent and can count on the important values that come from his family. Kimi is still in the early stages of his journey, and I think he has a bright future ahead of him that will be his if he keeps taking it one step at a time.
“Besides, it’s just lovely for me to work with him and his father, two people who have their feet firmly on the ground.”
Antonelli still has some few more years until he can join the F1 grid however. This is because the F1 has a minimum age requirement of 18 years for all drivers.
