Hugo, Matt’s late dog, was a major inspiration for BARK. Having a Great Dane of his own meant that Matt had to locate appropriate toys, treats, and accessories for a big dog. This made him see that every dog is different and that’s why he founded BarkBox. Matt is inspired by Hugo’s legacy and feels compelled to honour him by making sure BARK’s purpose is carried out for many generations to come.
BarkAir made its debut from New York to Los Angeles on May 22, 2024. There were six dogs and eleven humans on the first flight, including the crew. A qualified veterinary technician is present on every BarkAir flight to look after and monitor the dogs. In case of an emergency, the vet tech is also certified in CPR and first aid for all breeds.
The airline provides individualised customer care. Upon booking, a concierge gets in touch with pet owners to inquire about their trip schedule and dog. Dogs and owners experience no worry during check-in and security screening on the day of flight.
