He finally got his big breakthrough at Admira Wacker Modling making his debut for the club at 16 in 2010. The club gained promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga and he scored two goals in eight appearances.

The next season, he showcased his true potential after scoring five goals and three assists in his debut top-flight campaign. His performances quickly earned him an international debut at the young age of 18. That same season, Admira Wacker finished third, securing a Europa League spot thanks to Sabitzer’s performances.

Rapid Vienna signed him in January of 2013 and then eventually made a move to Germany. He signed a four-year deal with RB Leipzig, but was sent on loan at Red Bull Salzburg the first year. He netted in 19 goals and 16 assists that season helping his side win the league.

Big Bundesliga breakthrough

Sabitzer made a debut for RB Leipzig when the team were still in the second division. He helped the side win promotion under the leadership of former Man United interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Sabizter found success in his debut season at Bundesliga scoring eight goals and helping his side with a second-placed finish. The team also earned a UEFA Champions League qualification in 2017. He finished the net season with 16 goals and 11 assists across all competitions.

Following another impressive season, Bayern and former boss Julian Nagelsmann signed Sabitzer for €16 million (£14m) in 2021. Sabitzer has however, had a difficult start at Bayern, starting just 15 Bundesliga games throughout one and a half season.

Sabitzer at Manchester United

Marcel Sabitzer primarily plays as a central midfielder who mainly excels in the attacking third, with goals and assists. As a player, he is very similar to Eriksen, and he can also deliver great set-pieces, especially free-kicks.

Sabitzer is also an extremely versatile player and can operate in multiple roles, including attacking midfielder, second striker, winger, and even a deep-lying midfielder. Erik ten Hag seems to have secured just the perfect player to fill in Eriksen’s shoes while he remains sidelined.

His jersey number at the club isn’t known but he wore number 18 at Bayern Munich and number 7 at RB Leipzig.
