Marc Fogel hails from Pennsylvania United States and he has US citizenship. Marc Fogel is of white ethnicity. Marc completed his studies at Indiana University based in Pennsylvania, US. Later on, he has been a history teacher at the international schools of Colombia, Malaysia, Oman, and Venezuela. He lived and worked in Russia since 2012 and was since then teaching at Anglo-American School based in Moscow.
His wife Jane is also a teacher and he has a son named Ethan Fogel.
Marc Fogel Arrest And Imprisonment
In August of 2021, Marc Fogel was entering Russia via customs at the Sheremetyevo Airport when around half an ounce of medical marijuana was found in his bag. The substance had been prescribed to him in the United States to treat chronic pain and he was behind bars for this.
In June of 2022, Fogel was convicted of drug trafficking and he has sentenced to imprisonment for 14 years. Later on, in October 2022, Marc was transferred from a detention center based in Moscow to a penal colony where will serve the remainder of his sentence.
A bipartisan group of United States senators has lobbied for the State Department to designate Marc Fogel as unlawfully detained. His family has called on Brittney Griner (who was imprisoned but also released in a prisoner exchange in 2022) to speak out on his case.
Marc Fogel’s wife stated in a Wednesday interview with The Washington Post. After Blinken’s announcement, she’s still hoping her husband can be included in a swap. But those hopes are fading she said.
