The group played a significant role in the recent Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute. Narayana Gowda gained attention by writing a letter to PM Modi in his own blood, urging intervention in the Cauvery River water issue.

About Narayana Gowda

Originally employed in the garment industry, 56 year old Narayana Gowda later became the owner of a garment factory. In 2005, his group garnered attention by smearing black paint on the face of the then Belagavi corporation Mayor Vijay More following a controversial resolution.

Gowda holds the position of state president within the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), a fervently pro-Kannada organization and allthough known for his fiery activism, Gowda has been tagged as an “extorter.”

Gowda’s history dates back to a controversial incident in 1981 when, at the age of 15, he faced arrest for damaging a sound system playing Tamil songs during a Ganesha festival orchestra in Arsikere Malekal Tirupati.

Following the vandalism in Bengaluru on Wednesday, social media users questioned why Narayana Gowda’s daughter is studying in the United States and not in Karnataka. The names of his family members aren’t known though.

The protests were quelled, and activists were arrested. CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar condemned the vandalism while supporting the 60 percent Kannada requirement on signboards. They emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order.

Shivakumar asserted the government’s position on protests, stating that while citizens have the right to express their opinions, causing damage to public or government property is unacceptable. He reassured that the government is committed to upholding law and order.
