For the unversed, Fujioka, a Japanese rider, tragically endured a devastating fall during a race this past Saturday. The jockey is survived by his wife and their newborn son, who entered the world just last June.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed just a week after Stefano Cherchi passed away in a hospital in Australia. Stefano, the Sardinian born rider, who had over 100 winners in Britain died at the age of 23 after a fall in Australia.

Cause of Death

Meanwhile, as per reports, Kota Fujioka’s suffered devastating chest and head injuries when unseating from his horse at Hanshin racecourse.

According to reports, earlier Yusuke, Kota’s brother had revealed that Fujioka had sustained injuries to his head and chest in the accident and had remained in an unconscious state ever since.

After learning the tragic news of Kota Fujioka’s passing, social media is flooded with tributary and condolences messages. Japanese rider Yutaka Take took to X/Twitter and penned “I have never been so painful and sad. I still can’t believe it. In the future I will carry Kota’s thoughts in my heart.”

A former Arc de Triomphe winner and British jockey Luke Morris wrote: “Very sad news.” A US-based rider Umberto Rispoli took to X and wrote “I don’t know wtf is going on right now. But this is sad news. Rest in peace Kota! Gone too soon.”

About Kota Fujioka

For unversed, Fujioka made his name known in the horse riding world in last November when he was substituted for an injured rider, Ryan Moore, which resulted in clinching a Group 1 victory.

Moore, who’s known as one of the finest rider globally had to step down due to back injury that he sustained from a fall. At the time, Fujioka swiftly stepped up to plate, guiding Namur to her maiden top-tier triumph in the Mile Championship at Kyoto, seizing the opportunity with aplomb.

Fujioka, hailing from Shiga prefecture in central Japan, was the offspring of trainer Kenichi and the younger sibling of Yusuke, who himself was a jockey.

In 2007, Kota clinched his inaugural victory astride a horse under his father’s tutelage. Fast forward to this year, he’s notched up an impressive 28 wins, securing the 10th spot in the Japan Racing Association jockey rankings.

In his illustrious 18-year racing career, Fujioka clinched victory in 803 races, establishing himself as one of the most prominent jockeys in Japan’s lucrative racing arena.
