Julius Yego is a Kenyan track and field athlete who was born on January 4, 1989, in Cheptonon, in Tinderet, Nandi District, Kenya. Yego has a brother named Henry Kiprono. Julius competes in the javelin throw, and goes by the nickname “Mr. YouTube” because he learned how to throw by watching YouTube videos of other professional javelin athletes. Yego is currently the African record holder for the Men’s Javelin throw event with a personal best of 92.72 m.

Career and achievements
Julius Yego won his first javelin title at the All-Africa Games in 2011 followed by wins at the African Championships in Athletics in 2012 and 2014. Julius also became the first Kenyan to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in a field event in 2014. Meanwhile, during the 2015 World Championships, Yego won the gold medal with an impressive throw of 92.72m.
As a result, he became the first Kenyan to win a World Championships gold medal in a field event. He also set the new African Javelin throw record with that throw. The following year, Julius won silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Julius Yego failed to enter the finals after finishing 24th with a best throw of 77.34m. However, he bounced back and won a gold at the 2022 Africa Championships with a threw of 79.62m. He competed across several international events again but failed to win any medals.
However, he has been on the rise again after starting of the year with a silver at the African Games. He made an impressive throw of 81.74m, and then won a gold at the African Championships in Douala, Cameroon with a throw 80.24m.
