Japanese star badminton player Kento Momota has recently announced his retirement from international competitions. After the Thomas Cup, Momota will still compete in Japanese domestic competitions but will not be joining the World Tour.

The Japanese wasn’t ranked in the top 50 and couldn’t qualify. He concentrated on retiring after his final duty, the Thomas Cup. The Japanese international stated in a press conference in Japan:

I’m not going to lie, after the accident I’ve asked myself, ‘Why me?’

The former World No. 1 further said:

Honestly, it was one difficult time after another. But I didn’t want to blame it on the accident. I wanted to try and beat it.”

The player stated that had to go through alot of “hardship” after the accident in January 2020. He tried everything but couldn’t perform at the level he wanted to. Although the result for him was frustrating, he will leave with “no regrets” and is “done internationally.”

Who is Kento Momota?

Kento Momota is a profesional badminton player who was born on September 1, 1994 in Mino, Kagawa, Japan. The 29-year-old stands 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) tall. Nothing is known about his relationship status but he is unmarried.

Kento Momota started playing badminton at a very young age. He started playing the sport at second grade of elementary school. He earned his first championship in the sixth grade in the All Japan Elementary School Championship, winning the men’s singles division.
