The circumstances surrounding her unexpected death prompted troubling issues, especially in view of her mother’s accusations that she had been subjected to constant harassment by other prisoners.
Third-year geography student Katie Allen got herself into legal problems when, in February 2018, she entered a guilty plea to a hit-and-run event involving drunk driving and reckless driving. She was then sentenced to sixteen months in prison, which was far away from her academic goals.
On Katie Allan’s death, her family raised questions about the officials in the jail and the circumstances in which Katie committed suicide. Not only her family but also many people on social media are discussing the incident and asking why the authorities have not taken any action against the people who are responsible for it.
Since then, Katie Allan has become the talk of the town, with many people trying to know more about her. So, here’s what we know about her:
Who is Katie Allan?
Katie Allan was a young Scottish student and a convicted criminal. She has been in the news because she committed suicide in Polmont YOI jail while being incarcerated.
Katie Allan’s mother, Linda Allan, characterized her as a dedicated person. She was a lively and kind third-year geography student at the University of Glasgow.
She also struggled with issues, including alopecia and a history of self-harm. At the time of her death, she was just 21 years old.
Her heartbroken parents Linda and Stuart Allan spent months compiling a dossier of failures they claimed occurred before their daughter’s death.
What happened to her?
However, her life tragically changed when she was given a 16-month prison sentence for a hit-and-run incident involving a 15-year-old kid. Linda Allan claims that Katie didn’t realize she had hit someone and thought it was just a blown tire after four pints.
Notably, despite the seriousness of the incident, the boy’s family begged against Katie’s detention, demonstrating compassion.
Katie’s family had alerted prison officials about the painful experience of targeted strip searches during her incarceration because of her fragility and history of self-harm. According to Linda Allan, Katie’s situation was made worse by staff incompetence, which resulted in severe hair loss, and she reported bullying while she was incarcerated.
The occurrence itself made many wonder what exactly went wrong with Katie.
