He was born on November 7, 1951, in Kingstree, South Carolina. His father’s name is Reverend Dr. Marion L. Newman, Sr., and his mother’s name is Alice Singleton Newman.

In 1969, Clifton Newman graduated as valedictorian from his segregated high school and enrolled at Cleveland State University. Cleveland Marshall College of Law is where he obtained his Juris Doctor.

He is married, and his wife’s name is Patricia. They are parents of four children. He is 71 years old.

His career

After beginning his law career in Ohio, Clifton Newman established a private practice there. He fought eleven murder cases, four of which sought the death penalty, as well as personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice cases.

He was overwhelmingly chosen to fill the position of circuit court judge at-large in 2000, and he was re-elected three times. Also, he helped black judges and attorneys advance in their professions.
