When the defending national champion Tigers were getting ready for the women’s NCAA Tournament, LSU coach Kim Mulkey unleashed a tirade and threatened legal action against The Washington Post on Saturday.

Mulkey claimed the paper had been pursuing a “hit piece” about her for two years and gave her a deadline to respond to questions this past week. During the Tigers’ press conference, she said that she “hired the best defamation law firm in the country.” She further stated:
I will sue the Washington Post if they publish a false story on me. Not many people are in a position to hold these kinds of journalists accountable but I am, and I’ll do it.”
In an attempt to “trick” the coaches into talking while promising the players anonymity if they “say negative things about me,” Mulkey claimed that the reporter, Kent Babb, had gotten in touch with both former players and coaches who had worked under her.

Mulkey claimed to have informed the writer that she would not meet with him because she felt he had written an article about LSU football coach Brian Kelly that she “didn’t appreciate.”

Kent Babb is a writer, a journalist and a reported for The Washington Post and resides in Washington DC. He has completed BA in journalism from University of South Carolina.
