On Thursday, 28th July, Ivana Hrynkiw Shatara, a video news producer for AL.com, alleges she was told by a Department of Corrections official that her clothing was “inappropriate” and “very exposing”. She tried to join other media in seeing convicted killer Joe Nathan James’ execution using lethal injection.

Ivana Shatara Shared The Story on Twitter
After being barred, Ivana took over Twitter to share the details of the whole incident.
“I have worn this skirt to prior executions without incident, to work, professional events and more and I believe it is more than appropriate. At 5’7″, and 5’10” with my heels on, I am a tall and long legged person.”
She further added, “I tried to pull my skirt to my hips to make the skirt longer, but was told it was still not appropriate. Luckily, a very kind photographer from a Birmingham TV station offered me his rain gear-waterproof, Columbia PFG style fisherman’s wader pants. The ADOC spokesperson deemed this an appropriate swap for my skirt. I put on the man’s pants and attached the suspenders underneath my shirt to stay up.”
“Then, I was told my shoes were also too revealing and I needed to change shoes. Thankfully, I had a new pair of tennis shoes in my car. Despite wearing a pair of waders from a man I have never met and casual tennis shoes, I continued to do my job.”
She is married but her husband’s name is unknown while she is aged 29.
Response To Ivana Shatara’s Allegations
So far Alabama Department of Corrections has not made a response yet. However, other states’ corrections departments have enacted visitor dress regulations that prohibit revealing apparel in order to avoid triggering emotions from female-starved male convicts and to “maintain a positive environment for all inmates and visitors.”
