In 1985, Capito’s first job in motorsport was in the high-performance engine development department at BMW. Also in the same year, he was also part of the team that won the Paris–Dakar truck class. In 1989, he joined Porsche’s racing division, which was his first job in the Volkswagen Group.
Jost Capito joined Sauber’s executive committee in 1996 after moving there. After that, he went to work for Ford, where he stayed for 10 years and was in charge of developing the Focus Mk1 RS, which won the World Rally Championship for manufacturers in 2006 and 2007.
