At the age of just 19, Jonas Vingegaard Rasmussen competed in his first UCI 2.1-level event, the Tour of China I, with the Danish national team ColoQuick in May 2016. In 2019, he joined the Team Jumbo-Visma and where he won the first UCI World Tour for the same year at stage 6 then won his first race in 2021, stage 5 of the UAE Tour.

Vingegaard then competed in the 2021 Tour de France as the clear favorite to win, Primoz Roglic. Jonas Wingegaard clinched the race’s queen stage and placed second overall in the Team Jumbo-Visma 2022 Criterium du Dauphin behind teammate Roglich.
