Following the incident, John admitted to prosecutors that he had been considering assaulting Chauvin for about a month.
John Turscak stabs Derek Chauvin
According to the official reports of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, John Turscak attacked Chauvin using an “improvised knife.” The incident took place last week at the Federal Correctional Institution, located in Tucson.
John Turscak faces multiple charges
Following the shocking incident, John Turscak now faces multiple charges. He faces charges of attempted murder, assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, as well as assault that resulted in serious bodily injury. While these are just complaints, there are inferences of guilt against the accused. Notably, any accused individual is presumed innocent until there is enough evidence presented to a jury that establishes the person’s guilt beyond any reasonable doubt. As of now, the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, Tucson, is handling the prosecution.

John Turscak is the prime suspect in the stabbing of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. He is currently 52 years old and a former member of the Mexican Mafia. John had been sentenced to 30 years in prison back in 2001 after he admitted to carrying out several crimes while working as an undercover FBI informant. While speaking to federal prosecutors, John admitted to having considered the assault against Chauvin for about a month before he actually committed the crime.
Derek Chauvin
Chauvin is a former Minneapolis police officer who is currently serving time in prison for the murder of George Floyd. The incident caused worldwide protests against police brutality and racism and led to Chauvin serving a 22 1/2-year sentence. Chauvin knelt down on Floyd’s neck for 9½ minutes while Floyd repeatedly kept saying that he couldn’t breathe, before he eventually went limp. Notably, the former police officer is also serving a 21-year federal sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights.
Reason behind the date of the stabbing
During the investigations, John Turscak told prosecutors the reason behind choosing November 24 as the date of the stabbing. Notably, the day after Thanksgiving is commonly known as “Black Friday.” According to John, he chose the day to symbolise the Black Lives Matter movement as well as the “Black Hand” symbol of the Mexican mafia.
