Alamgir Alam bio and age
Alamgir Alam is an Indian politician and a resident of Sahibganj district who was born on 1954 in Pakur, Jharkhand. He is currently 70 years old, and a four-time MLA for Pakur constituency in the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha. He works under the Indian National Congress party and has been elected to the Jharkhand assembly during the 2000, 2004, 2014 and 2019 elections.

Alamgir Alam political career
Alam was first got elected to the Jharkhand Assembly back in 2000, before getting re-elected again in 2004. He later served as the Speaker of the Jharkhand Assembly in 2006. Alam lost the polls during the 2009 elections but ultimately rose back to power with successive wins in the Jharkhand Assembly elections in 2014 and 2019. The veteran politician is currently serving as Jharkhand’s Minister of Rural Development under the government of Chief Minister Champai Soren.
Alamgir Alam ED raid controversy
Alam is currently embroiled in a scandal following a recent ED raid and search at his residence in connection to a money laundering case filed against Veerendra Kumar Ram. Veerendra is the former chief engineer of the rural development department whom police arrested last February. Following the raids the ED, stated in its official 2023 statement that Mr Ram “generated proceeds of crime in the name of commission” from various contractors with the reason of allotting tenders.
The ED carried out the raids across multiple locations in Ranchi on Monday. Following the raids, the ED recovered a whopping ₹ 25 crore of unaccounted cash from the house of a domestic helper of Sanjiv Lal, Alamgir Alam’s secretary.
